Our Life

I want to share the real side of parenting overseas as we are currently escaping the United States. Our family travel blog chronicles our journey with three kids: E, my oldest at 5 years old, B, my middle child at 3, and J, my youngest at just 1 year old. We’ve packed what we could into suitcases, sold the rest, and moved our whole family abroad to Albania. Here, we are homeschooling our children, attending a local church, learning the language, and making friends along the way while navigating the Worldwide Chaos of traveling with kids.

We go two days a week to school to teach science and math. We are absolutely in love with this organization and the people they are. Our students want to be there, they want to learn, they are smart, fun, silly and full of personality. Everyone greets me with smiles and hugs, we laugh and learn simultaneously. Within hours of being in Albania we started seeing the graffiti, it was a wonderful reminder that wherever we are, teenagers will be teenagers, and their humor is all the same.

For E's birthday, she got to choose where we went to eat for lunch, one activity, and what veggies to get at the veggie stand for dinner. The activity she chose was to ride in The Pink Taxi.

Having less stress means we are able to relax once the kids are asleep, have a sweet treat and enjoy time together as a couple and best friends.

Moving halfway across the world, and learning a new language comes with a learning curve. Translation apps can only help so much. We had ordered this vegetarian pizza thinking we would get a pizza with bell peppers. We have to be flexible when ordering food without pictures because what we assume may not be what we get.

This is the fresh vegetable market. It is very overwhelming but they are a gracious people. Trying to go down the narrow aisles with small children with fast hands was impossible until one of the venders handed J, the one year old, washed grapes. Then another vender told my husband and I that our two big kids were wonderful and adorable and gave each of them a plum. They were so happy to have their own plums! This was definitely one of my favorite experiences.
